I like hardbat because it's

I like hardbat because it's more about  getting out there and HITTING the ball.... none of this "deception" and insane amounts of spin that cause folks to hit a ball so far off course as to make him look a fool.  More about stroking and strategy and less about blasting through your opponents loops, etc.  There's a certain "finesse" to hardbat play that appeals to me immensely.  That and the volleys are much longer... more aerobic as you run around like mad and (as we're coming to find out) far more interesting from a spectator standpoint.

Comparing to long pips.... I would agree with Larry.  I tried L.P'ps on a few occaisions on a combination bat.  Seeing as I attack with both BH and FH and couldn't keep track of which way I had the doggone bat in my hand... it made for a bit of a confusing game to say the least.  Hardbat... well you simply MUST HAVE the same rubber FH or BH... in fact... if you're of a nature to... you can have the SAME COLOR on both faces of the bat.

LOL... the other night whilst playing a fellow just for fun, I started "twiddling" the hardbat.devil  That was just... wrong.

Hi PipProdigy, it happened in

Hi PipProdigy, it happened in college. First I beat the guy with a book. Then an ash tray. Then an ID card. Then the ice cube. There was a refrigerator with a freezer in the room, and I actually needed three ice cubes to beat him since they kept melting. I strongly recommend gloves to potential ice cube players.

As to hardbat, long pips is actually a bit different than hardbat when counter-attacking, but for chopping and hitting against backspin, it's about the same.

I'm interested in taking up

I'm interested in taking up hardbat so that I can play at least one type of game on an even level with Chance Friend xD. I feel like there might be some similarities between hardbat and long pips, at least on the forehand. Anyone care to correct me if I'm wrong?

@Larry: An ice cube? That had to be embarassing. I once beat a bunch of teenagers with the back of a lunch tray, but that has nothing on an ice cube xD.

Though I'm primarily a sponge

Though I'm primarily a sponge player (since I'm a coach, and that's what most player use), I also play hardbat at some tournaments. I'm the defending Hardbat Doubles and Over 40 Singles winner from the Nationals in December. Hopefully more of the hardbat crew will join us soon. Speaking of breaking the ice, I once beat someone with an ice cube!!!
