Side spin serve receiving.

Hey Coach,

I have a pretty good backhand flip and loop, but I noticed recently, I had a problem receiving half long and long side topspin serves, with the ball often flying off the end, so I  tried an adjustment by trying to ensure that I always made contact with the ball in the middle of my body by following the curve of the ball and trying to move my feet accordingly. It seemed to have a a good effect.

I want to know if this is the proper technique, as I am often not fast enough to anticipate length and run around my forehand, which would naturaly counter the sidespin effect.

That's exactly what you want to do. What you don't want to do is to reach for the ball, which throws off your stroke. The key is early recognition of the direction the ball is going to curve so you can move properly instead of a last-second lunge.
